Crackstone is a hard material in Sandustry that resists your basic tools. It is a terrain obstacle rather than a resource you farm — breaking it gives you nothing, but getting through it is sometimes unavoidable.
How to break crackstone
Not every tool works on crackstone:
- Shovel — does not break crackstone.
- Gun — does not break crackstone.
- Other excavation tools — these do break it.
In practice this means you need a proper digging tool beyond the starting Shovel and Gun before you can clear crackstone.
When it matters
Crackstone blocks paths and tunnels underground, so you will hit it while digging for lava or other deep resources. When you do, switch to a stronger excavation tool — and remember there is no loot on the other side of breaking it, only the path it was blocking.
