The best overall Sandustry unlocks are the Grabber, Flamethrower and Cryoblaster for tools, plus the Shaker, Conveyor Belt, Launcher, Kinetic Press, Filter and fluid logistics for buildings. They earn S tier because they solve recurring bottlenecks across progression, not because of an unverified damage or throughput number.
How to read the tables: mechanics and item availability come from the linked official sources in each row. Tier placement and comparative language are our editorial judgment under the published ranking method below.

Sandustry Tools Tier List
S-tier tools stay useful across many stages of a save. Lower tiers are not bad: they are more expensive, situational, or supported by less complete official documentation.
| Tier | Items | Best for | Why | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Grabber, Flamethrower, Cryoblaster | Handling, thermal processing and terrain control | Our top utility picks: the Grabber handles materials, while Flamethrower and Cryoblaster cover several documented thermal and terrain interactions. | Beginner's Guide · Research |
| A | Vacuum, Digger Drone, Sweeper Drone, Drill | Bulk collection and automated excavation | These remove repetitive manual work or break hard materials, but their unlock requirements and incomplete published performance data keep them below our S-tier picks. | Research · Official item index |
| B | Gun, Rocket Launcher, Laser, Shovel, Corraller | Excavation and specialist production setups | Useful throughout a run, but either less versatile, expensive to operate, or dependent on a specific obstacle, Critter or production plan. | Research · Beginner's Guide |
| C | Flare Gun, Flashlight, Energy Siphon, Locator, Recall Shard | Exploration, lighting and convenience | Helpful quality-of-life tools whose value rises in the right situation, without directly improving most production lines. | Research · Official item index |
| Unranked | Void Gun, Grappling Hook, Volcanizer, Coloring Tool, Caulk Blaster, Precision Laser, Prefabulator, Wall Tool, Demolisher, Marquee, Pipe Remover, Hauler Drone, Recon Drone | Specialized utility | Current official material confirms these names but does not provide enough complete mechanics, costs or comparable performance evidence for a responsible placement. | Official item index · Research |
Sandustry Weapons Tier List
Sandustry does not have a conventional combat meta in the available official material. This list ranks weapon-like tools for destruction, excavation and terrain processing, not measured DPS.
| Tier | Items | Best for | Why | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Flamethrower | Ice, Residue and Water-to-Steam interactions | Our first choice for destructive utility: it burns Residue, melts Ice and creates Steam. Official guidance favors it over rockets for solid ice stalactites. | Research · Beginner's Guide |
| A | Laser, Drill | Sustained tunneling and hard materials | Both are strong excavation upgrades. The Laser has a steep 5,000 Gold price and high energy demand; the Drill also requires an established energy chain. | Research · Beginner's Guide |
| B | Rocket Launcher, Gun | Ranged destruction and digging | Good reach and raw destruction, but less broadly useful than the thermal and sustained-excavation choices above. | Research · Beginner's Guide |
Sandustry Buildings Tier List
Buildings are ranked by how often they unlock or stabilize a production chain. For practical layouts, pair this list with the Gold production guide and factory tips.
| Tier | Items | Best for | Why | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S | Shaker, Conveyor Belt, Launcher, Kinetic Press, Filter, Pipe, Pump, Liquid Vent | Gold and core logistics | These form the backbone of early Gold and dependable solid or fluid lines. The Kinetic Press turns a correct 25+ block drop into deterministic Gold and Seeds. | Beginner's Guide · Kinetic Press |
| A | Planter Box, Burner Belt, Thermal Buffer, Conveyor Belt Mk.2, Launcher Mk.2, Advanced Filter, Steam Dryer, Condenser, Florinol Battery, Smelter, Flux Emanator | Scaling established production | Our next group for automated thermal chains, faster logistics, energy and renewable Fluxite. Their cost or setup burden makes them less urgent than the S-tier foundation. | Research · Beginner's Guide · Flux Emanator |
| BProvisional | Conveyor Portal, Clearing Frame, Aerokinetic Fan, Pyro Dispenser, Snowmaker, Copper Mold, Energy Connector, Steam Turbine | Dense layouts and specialist processing | Valuable once a factory has the matching need. Copper Mold, Energy Connector and Steam Turbine remain provisional because official operating details are incomplete. | Research · Official building index |
| CProvisional | Void Rift, Collector, Foundation, Glass Foundation, Door, Critter Fence, Wall Light | Late chains, storage and construction | Useful or necessary endpoints with less direct effect on throughput. Void Rift is provisional until its full production behavior is documented. | Research · Official building index |
| Unranked | Aura Extractor, Prismite Well, Prismaline Well, Synthesizer, Retro Console, Game Controller, Signal Linker, Signal Switch, Signal Button, Signal Sensor, Pulse Sensor, Presence Sensor, Buffer, Toggle (T-FlipFlop), Signal Lamp, AND Gate, OR Gate, NOT Gate, NAND Gate, NOR Gate, XOR Gate, XNOR Gate, Repeater | Advanced and logic systems | The accessible official pages are incomplete or WIP, so assigning a tier would imply evidence that is not currently available. | Official building index · Research |
Best Sandustry Unlocks by Goal
- First Gold
- Shaker
- Reliable later Gold
- Kinetic Press
- Solid logistics
- Conveyor Belt + Launcher
- Fluid logistics
- Pipe + Pump + Liquid Vent
- Mixed-line control
- Filter or Advanced Filter
- Renewable Fluxite
- Flux Emanator
Recommended General Research Order
One editorial all-purpose route is Shaker → Logistics → Flamethrower → Filter → Kinetic Press → Cryoblaster → Fluids → Planter Box → Advanced Filter → Logistics Mk.2. This favors stable Gold and transport before expensive specialist tools. Your terrain and preferred factory design can justify a different order; unlock names, costs and prerequisites are documented on the official Research page.
- Start Gold: buy Shaker, then Logistics for belts and vertical or diagonal Launchers.
- Stabilize processing: add Flamethrower and Filter before building a larger mixed-material line.
- Scale Gold: unlock Kinetic Press once you can build and keep a clean 25+ block drop.
- Control terrain: Cryoblaster is our preferred option for the documented Water, Lava and cold-processing interactions.
- Expand the network: add Fluids, Planter Box and then advanced logistics as demand grows.
How This Tier List Is Ranked
Rankings weigh progression necessity, recurring usefulness, production or logistics impact, versatility, unlock cost and prerequisites, plus power, space, clogging and setup burden. This is an editorial utility ranking, not a measured throughput or damage benchmark: official sources do not yet publish complete rates, capacities, energy costs or footprints for most entries.
Unranked does not mean weak. It means there is not enough current, authoritative evidence to compare that item responsibly. The official Research page is marked WIP, and Sandustry's Early Access balance can change.
Older sources may call the Kinetic Press the “Kinetic Slag Press” and Burnt Residue “Burnt Slag.” This page uses the current names shown by the official wiki while retaining the existing guide URL for continuity.
Source snapshot: the official wiki index was last edited August 11, 2026, and the WIP Research page August 12, 2026. Some dedicated pages, including the Flux Emanator page, contain pre-release or demo-era material. Those entries are treated as provisional unless the Early Access guide or Research page also supports them.
